Today we have a guest post written by Joanna of Arcadian Lighting. Enjoy the inspiration:
Hello, I’m Joanna. I write for Arcadian Lighting, a must-shop source for sparking chandeliers, pendant lights, and lighting fixtures of all styles and finishes. Today, I am here to share a guest post with you centered on dark and chic interiors. I would like to thank Iris for allowing me to share my finds with you. I hope these rooms will inspire lots of decorating ideas of your own.

Dark grey walls and flooring draw the room in making it almost cozy. The convex mirror painted the same grey as the walls is a nice addition above the fireplace. The Chesterfield sofa sits ready for someone to curl up on it with a good read.

The dark chocolate velvet Tuxedo sofa is divine against the mottled green wall with period painting. The room provides an interesting mix of traditional and modern.

A light silvery tufted sofa decorated with vivid-hued pillows sits against a dark grey wall. The brilliant colors, such as turquoise on the light fixture, keep the room from being drab and flat.

Shades of grey decorate this farmhouse kitchen beautifully. I love all of the open shelving that soars right up to the ceiling. The barely grey floor and the white elements keep the space from being too dark.

Chocolately brown gives this room its richness while white walls and bedding give it a crispness. Not sure if I like the addition of navy to the mix. What do you think?

An equestrian room features handsome dark paneling surrounding a daybed. The Hermes orange bag and boxes are a nice touch.

Another room in digressing grey shades is lovely and inviting. Contemporary furnishings such as the bed and ceiling light fixture play nicely with more traditional elements. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

Thanks for reading! Me too. Especially when they’re done right and look dramatic. How did the proposal go?

I love dark rooms, but I’m always tentative to try them. These are some great examples of what dark interiors should look like!! My favorite has to be the equestrian room (I have an affinity for orange, white and brown).

Dark rooms can be intimidating. But dark walls with a lot of natural light or even small spaces contrasted with brighter elements can look stunning. I’d have to agree. The equestrian space is perfect. I love the mix of the orange, brown, and white too. The orange adds such a fun pop. Plus, I love horses and do a lot of equestrian design, so I’m biased!

Thanks for reading! I can’t even imagine how pretty your future house will be! Beautiful photography and artwork everywhere, stripey pot plants (they are cool), bold colors. That’s what I envision when I read your blog anyway.

Ohhh youre so cute…YES! Thats exactly what I want…I love white walls and plenty of them for all my art. But then bright red dining room chairs or a crazy duvet cover. I need to win lotto!
What does your ideal look like?

Hmmm. That’s like asking a mother who their favorite child is. haha. In the suburbs/country like where I live now I would say “modern traditional.” Neutral color palette with dramatic accents in the form of fabrics and furnishings with some vintage and eclectic accents. In my non-existent New York penthouse overlooking Central Park I would go for “modern eclectic.” Maybe a dining room with rich, dark blue lacquered walls, an over the top chandelier, ghost chairs, cool artwork/sketches/photography on the walls, hardwood floors with layered rugs, etc. As you can see I’ve thought about this a lot! haha. Also, here are some bright red chairs that would be perfect for your future, lottery winning home: http://pinterest.com/pin/202310208231637263/.
