Good Interior Design Breathes Life into a Room and Tells a Unique Story

I am so excited to share my new web site with all of you, which was just released this weekend (Iris Interiors LLC). My amazing Web site designer Nicole from Curio Electro is expecting her second child in two short days. We weren’t quite sure if we’d make it in time and if baby-to-be was going to cooperate or not!

My starting point for designing a space is always finding that special inspiration piece that I believe reflects my client. It could be something they already own and love, or even a mood they want to create. I’m drawn to color, texture and finishes, so frequently I start with a gorgeous piece of fabric as well. On that note, we just finished a room that I call “Bohemian Color Infusion” (on a budget), which began with a $35 comforter from Target. More on that in a future post. My point is, that it doesn’t have to be expensive, but it does have to be something the homeowner loves!

I also believe that as Designers, while aiming to create spaces that reflect our client, the designs represent us as well.  I don’t mean we should force our personal design preferences onto our clients, rather a small piece of our heart and soul will be left behind. It is, after all, one of our creations and we should love it as well. If we can’t fully embrace our client’s goal and objectives, how can we be fully inspired and passionate about the project?  If I am not excited and fully committed to the goal, how can I find the motivation and energy to give it 100% +?  It is my job to translate their requests into an amazing space that honors who they are, while still staying true to my passion and philosophy as a designer.

So this brings me to my last point. By translating my clients’ wishes, their dreams, their history, their family, into a beautiful and functional space, the finished room should tell their unique story. The story might be about their family and pets, their ancestry, their travels, their collections, etc. Whatever the story may be, it is their own and should be meaningful to them.

So keep this in mind when you take a peek at my new web site. It reflects who I am. It tells my story and what inspires me. It is one of my creations and, yes, it includes a little bit of my heart and soul and probably some of Nicole’s heart and soul as well!  Enjoy!!

  5. Your new site is very elegant, and I see some touches that I would like to incorporate into some projects I am working up in our new home. Really lovely and inspirational!!! I wish you joy-filled success! :)

    • Thank you so much for the kind words! I saw the carousel post you wrote and knew I had to follow you. I have a coffee table with a carousel carved into the bottom. Your words really captured the beauty and whimsy of the art. Post pictures of your new projects at home! I’d love to see them.

  6. wow, i love your new website! the design is very chic and modern. i’ve been thinking about having someone customize my own blog, but wasn’t sure if it was worth it. after seeing your creation, it’s definitely worth it! it gives you so much more freedom and uniqueness. it’s also inspiring that you have your own business, i’m just starting my own, actually!

( also thanks for reading my blog organicgrey.blogspot.com :)

  7. Congratulations on starting your own business! I started with a DIY website because initially it gave me the greatest flexibility to create my content and to easily change and refine it. But then comes a time where you just have to go for it! Looks to me though as if you have done a great job on your own already (:
